Thank you for writing in!  I love messages!  First off, we haven’t heard John’s perspective yet, in fact he hasn’t had a chance to really express that much in the face of all sorts of things like extra older Sherlocks, house arrest, concerns about his friends and family, being interrogated by Mycroft’s men, and the fact that everyone keeps telling him he’s apparently dead in this universe.

Even keeping in mind that Other John’s chapter hasn’t been posted yet, it is super common for family members to look like each other.  My own mother sometimes can’t tell the difference between pictures of my niece and myself as children.  My sister even accidentally gave her the haircut I had at the same age, oops.  And children are often the spitting image of their parents.  At this point Other John’s probably more concerned about the fact he
