Inktober #11:
“The square window above the desk had been industriously scrubbed from the inside, but the build of up dust and age still cast the room into a strange beige light. It vaguely made Mycroft nauseous, and not just the mental image of John industriously scrubbing at the window panes in an effort to brighten the room. “I need to get out of here,” Sherlock made a vague motion with his hands lifting to tighten in his hair. “This room, it just keeps buzzing. Its agonizing.” (thursdayplaid, Bantam wars)

A ghost is the spirit of a deceased person that lingers on the mortal plain after their death. Known by many different names including wraith, phantom and spectre, there are thousands of different ideas about ghosts throughout the world.

One of the most common depictions of ghosts is of a translucent figure that resembles the person they once were. Other ideas include indistinct sheet-like apparitions, hovering balls of light, shadowy figures, invisible presences, and spirits of more frightening countenance, such as skeletons and demonic-looking entities.

The idea of the soul living on after death is present in beliefs the world over. Many religions see ghosts as evidence of the afterlife, with some cultures even worshipping their ancestors.

It is believed by many that ghosts can be contacted by mediums, or by ordinary people through the use of items like Ouija boards. Through this method, it is hoped that knowledge can be gained about what awaits us all after death.

In most modern cultures, ghosts are seen as frightening and even harmful. Horror films and spooky stories beyond count tell of disturbing hauntings and people being stalked, hurt and even killed by wicked spirits.
