Wee Doctor by americanjedi
Dr.
John Watson is turned into an eight year old child, dealing with
Sherlock who doesn’t know him in a world where he was never born. He’s a
little stressed out, but he’s got his priorities straight. Original
characters and London as a war zone, and John’s accidentally inventing a
super genius.
My vote- OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! You have to read this!
Dear writer, you’re fast on the way to becoming my Yoda!
Sorry,
but the summary doesn’t do enough to sell the story. This is what a
reader needs to know, without revealing anything spoilery.
First – John physically turns into a kid (and you have
to ignore the way it happens, because it may be cliche, but the writer
made it happen in half a chapter and in any case, the story starts after it happens). All the kidfic haters and those of you who’re thinking, ugh! not again, please don’t stop and READ AHEAD.
Second-
He doesn’t lose his memories, so he still remains the John we know
(with the knowledge and experience of an army surgeon), trapped inside
an eight-year old’s body. Hence the title!
Third – and the most important thing–
is that during the transformation, John-as-a-kid is transported back in
time to when he hadn’t met Sherlock yet. So no one knows him, whether
it’s Sherlock, Mrs. Hudson or Lestrade.
Has your jaw dropped open
yet? If it hasn’t then it’s simply because you cannot imagine the extent
of world-building a plot like this would require. The writer does it so
bloody exceptionally well, that I didn’t realise how and when I had
sped through 10 chapters. And wee John will leave you breathless with
his characterisation, his loyalty and his coping mechanisms.
This is the second time (If you missed her first story here’s the LINK),
that that she has taken an otherwise heard-of plot for the story’s
spinal cord- in this case, John is turned into a kid, AND then turned
the whole thing on it’s head. My mouth dropped open at the beginning of
second chapter and it stayed that way all the way to chapter 10, where I
just started salivating for the next part. The reason I’m reccing this
even when it’s a w.i.p. is because, it deserves a WHOLE LOT MORE
readership, love and encouragement. FIVE STARS!
p.s. I can’t wait for Jim to enter the fray!
